Losing a loved one is one of the hardest experiences in life. The pain and sorrow can be overwhelming, but as Muslims, we find comfort in making dua for deceased. It is a noble act to pray for their forgiveness and ask Allah (SWT) to grant them mercy, elevate their ranks in Jannah, and protect them from the punishment of the grave and Hellfire.
Islam encourages us to continuously seek forgiveness for our departed loved ones, as it benefits them even after their passing. In this article, we will explore five powerful dua for deceased, both male and female, along with their Arabic text, transliteration, and meaning in English.
1. Dua For Deceased Male (Father, Brother, Husband)
This dua is a supplication for a deceased man, asking Allah to forgive him, grant him peace, and admit him into Paradise.
In Arabic:
اللَّهمَّ اغْفِرْ لَه ُُ وَارْحَمْهُ، وَعَافِه ِِ وَاعْفُ عَنْهُ، وَأَكْرِمْ نُزُلَهُ، وَوَسِّعْ مُدْخَلَهُ، وَاغْسِلْهُ بِالمَاءِ وَالثَّلْجِ وَالبَرَدِ، وَنَقِّه ِِ مِنَ الخَطَايَا كَمَا نَقَّيْتَ الثَّوْبَ الأَبْيَضَ مِنَ الدَّنَسِ، وَأَبْدِلْهُ دَاراً خَيْرا ً مِنْ دَارِهِ، وَأَهْلاً خَيْرا ً مِنْ أَهْلِهِ، وَزَوْجَاً خَيْرا ً مِنْ زَوْجِهِ، وَأَدْخِلْهُ الجَنَّةَ، وَأَعِذْهُ مِنْ عَذَابِ القَبْرِ وَعَذَابِ النَّار
Transliteration:
Allahummaghfir lahu, warhamhu, wa ‘afihi, wafu ‘anhu, wa akrim nuzulahu, wa wassi‘ mudkhalahu, waghsilhu bil-ma’i wath-thalji wal-baradi, wa naqqihi minal-khataya, kama naqqaytath-thawbal-abyada minad-danasi, wa abdilhu daran khairan min darihi, wa ahlan khairan min ahlihi, wa zawjan khairan min zawjihi, wa adkhilhul-Jannata, wa a‘idh- hu min ‘adhabil-qabri, wa min ‘adhabin-nar.
Meaning in English:
O Allah! Forgive him, have mercy on him, pardon him, grant him a noble dwelling, and expand his grave. Wash him with water, snow, and hail, purify him from sins as You have purified a white garment from stains. Grant him a better home than his previous one, a better family than his former, and a better spouse than he had. Admit him into Jannah and protect him from the torment of the grave and the punishment of Hell.

2. Dua For Deceased Female (Mother, Sister, Wife)
For a deceased woman, the words change slightly to reflect the feminine pronoun.
In Arabic:

For a child, the following dua is recited:

اللَّهُمَّ اجْعَلْهُ ذُخْراً لِوَالِدَيْهِ وَشَفِيعاً مُجَاباً، اللَّهُمَّ أَعْظِمْ بِهِ أُجُورَهُمَا وَثَقِّلْ بِهِ مَوَازِينَهُمَا، وَأَلْحِقْهُ بِالصَّالِحِينَ
Meaning in English:
O Allah, make this child a source of reward and intercession for the parents. O Allah, increase their rewards and make their scales weigh heavily. Join him with the righteous believers who have gone before, and place him in the care of Prophet Ibrahim (AS). Protect him from the torment of Hell by Your mercy.
4. General Dua For Deceased
اللَّهُمَّ اغْفِرْ لِحَيِّنَا وَمَيِّتِنَا، وَصَغِيرِنَا وَكَبِيرِنَا، وَذَكَرِنَا وَأُنْثَانَا
Meaning: O Allah, forgive our living and our dead, our young and our old, our men and our women. Whomever You keep alive, let them live in Islam, and whomever You take away, take them away in faith.
